Commercial Marine Searchlights

The commercial marine market is where Carlisle & Finch first got its start. Over 127 years ago, Robert S. Finch pioneered the development of carbon arc searchlight technology, which replaced kerosene lanterns on the Mark Twain Paddlewheel Boats that sailed up and down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. Over the many decades since, Carlisle & Finch has shipped tens of thousands of commercial marine searchlights throughout the world and remains the standard in many of the following markets:

  • Inland Waterways (Towboats, Tugboats, Passenger Vessels, Dredges, etc.)
  • Great Lakes Regions (Tankers, Tugboats, Ice Breakers, etc.)
  • Harbors and Coastal Regions (Tugboats, Pilot Boats, Ferry Boats, etc.)
  • Offshore Oil Industry (Offshore Supply Vessels, Drill Vessels, OSPV’s, etc.)
  • Deep Water Vessels (Freighters, Cruise Ships, RORO Vessels, etc.)

Just as Carlisle & Finch pioneered Carbon Arc Searchlight Technology in the late 1800s, and later Xenon Arc Technology in the 1960s, Carlisle & Finch is now creating innovative product designs utilizing advanced energy-efficient LED technology. Two recent product launches are a full line of LED Searchlights and also Xenon/LED Hybrid Searchlights, as Follows:

LED Searchlights

Carlisle & Finch offers powerful eco-friendly LED searchlights in 10, 12 and 19-inch diameter options. The LEDs project a brilliant white beam, consume minimal power, and have extremely long life. These unique Carlisle & Finch designs include redundancy, which provides maximum reliability, and optional internal infrared LEDs, provide built-in night vision capability.

Xenon / LED Hybrid Searchlights

Although the development of LED technology has made great strides in recent years, it still cannot compete with the long distances serviced by xenon searchlights. However, by integrating auxiliary LEDs to xenon searchlights, extremely wide areas at close range will now be illuminated where the narrower xenon beam cannot effectively service. The LEDs project an aimable wall of light, 300 meters long by 200 Meters wide, used strategically for search and rescue, docking, seeing workers at night, barge handling, etc. The xenon/LED hybrid searchlight combines the strengths of multiple lighting technologies into one flexible product. The LEDs can be added to existing xenon C&F searchlights in the field!
